Movie Cat
So
how did Catriona MacKenzie end up with that online nickname?
Well the Movie part is pretty self-explanatory, but what about
Cat? Well people soon found that it's easier, and quicker, to
type than Catriona (she would have a Gaelic name). Plus, as well
as being movie-mad, our Webmaster (she hates the term Webmistress)/Forum
Manager is cat-daft! Well maybe just daft... Have you seen the logo
mascot for the Pad? Cat says it was the other staff that persuaded her
to keep it, but we wonder if it's just an excuse to leave paw marks
all over the place and to explain the scratches on the Swooning Couch...
Where in the world is she? In the UK, Scotland to be precise. Just
whatever you do, don't mention Brigadoon to her. It's the proverbial
red rag to a umm... cat! As a former teacher, Cat is well used to helping
people out (did I just hear someone say "bossing them too"), so she's
happy to answer any questions members have. She rose from being a 'mere'
member of a CompuServe movie forum to becoming the Forum Manager of
both it and it's sister video forum.
See what we mean? Bossing people about, it's in her blood! Just watch
she doesn't get her claws into you ;-) Don't let that put you off though,
Cat really is quite harmless - honestly! She loves talking online to
fellow film addicts from all over the world, and thinks "The
Internet was made for Movie Fans"
According to her mother, Cat became a movie fan a month before she
was even born! This is what happens if you go to see The Sound of
Music when you're over eight months pregnant. The hills have been
alive with Cat wittering on about films ever since. As a small child
she'd be avidly watching old black and white movies while her friends
screamed at her to change channel to the cartoons. They didn't know
what they were missing! Luckily, or should that be unluckily, she's
now well past the 'goo goo ga ga' stage of movie reviewing. The older
generations of her family complain she knows more about the movies of
their youth than they do.
Cat's home suffers from that problem common to movie addicts - lack
of space. It appears as though every room in her house contains part
of her video collection. She gets the feeling that now she's got a DVD
player things are going to get 'worse'. After all she's already got
multiple copies of some films on video (in Pan and Scan, Letterbox,
Restored Print, Special Edition, and Collectors Box Set), and we bet
that soon the DVD's will be added to the pile. Then you've got to add
the shelves full of movie reference books to the equation.
So if Cat says she's away to look out a video, or a book, and never
returns, a safe bet is she's got swallowed up by the movie mountain.
We'll find her some day, clutching a book of movie quotes between her
paws with one claw pointing to the line "There's no place like home".
