• Lucas/Spielberg blockbusters, esp. Star Wars, Jaws, and Close Encounters (entertainment and art are not mutually exclusive)
• His DVD player
• Animation in all forms
• Shamelessly silly comedies
• Futuristic dystopias
• Film scores (and not lousy pop songs)
• Remakes that actually improve on a lukewarm original (The Fly, The Thing)
• Illustration as movie poster art

Movie Dislikes

• Bad TV shows remade as even worse movies
• Dull, talky "indie movies" in which nothing happens, praised because they were financed by credit card
• Films that aren't cinematic (we do have other art forms, like stage, TV, and radio)
• Phony upbeat endings (too easy)
• Phony downbeat endings (too cynical)
• Actors' portraits as movie poster art
• Trailers that give away all the plot points
• "Classic rock" in film scores
• Dubbed foreign films
• The general obsession with opening grosses, production budgets, and stars' salaries
