MovieForum.com Covers First Film Festival
- Avoids International Incidents (or so he says!)

Given what I've been reading in the light of the TIFF fallout
from our illustrious "competition" in the print realm, I figure this
is the part where I'm supposed to strike up the string section and bemoan
what a big hassle the whole thing was.
Y'know, how "hard" it is to be a roving reviewer in the MegaCity, pretending
not to notice celebrities and lamenting for films as they (allegedly)
were in the 1970s. How ten consecutive days of marathon seat sitting
and watching celluloid unspool and collecting free "stuff" from distributors
are sacrifices of one's energy only slightly less desirable than passing
a bowling ball.
Well, chalk it up to my stereotypically "nice" Canadian nature, or
maybe I'm still delirious from Second-Cup-"Energy Latte" overload, but
I have nothing but fond memories of having attended the 24th Annual
Toronto International Film Festival as MovieForum.com's official
rep. By the end of the last day, I wanted to shake the next black-clad
sourpuss I happened upon, and tell him "you can't score a "Reservoir
Dogs" every year, pal, so why not drop the long face, turn off the
cell phone, and attend the midnight screening of "Gamera 3: The Revenge
Of Iris", with the rest of us citizens?"
