Galas: Or, no admission unless your last name is Wilson, Baldwin or
Arquette. The hottest and hardest tickets in town, but since most of
the films open in regular theatres within a month of the Festival, why
bother? The big winners in this series were Atom Egoyan's "Felicia's
Journey" with Bob Hoskins, and Sam Mendes' "American Beauty"
with Kevin Spacey (also in town to promote "The Big Kahuna"),
neither of which I had the time to attend. Nevertheless, I managed to
catch two other much ballyhooed American entries: Peter Kassovitz' "Jakob
The Liar" with Robin Williams, and Wes Craven's "Music Of The Heart"
with Meryl Streep. Perfectly acceptable mainstream efforts, but nothing
distinguished.
Dialogues: Mr. Romero, will you please sign
all 200 of my "Night of the Living Dead" collector trading cards?
