MovieForum.com Covers First Film Festival
- Avoids International Incidents (or so he says!)

Ever the optimists, Torontonians assume there will still be a world
after December 31, 1999, and already, Festival Director Piers Handling
is planning next year's 25th anniversary.
The TIFF 2000 will be
marked by a specially commissioned series of four-minute shorts about
the Fest by prominent Canadian directors, a star-studded director's
tribute, a comprehensive book, and free screenings.
The four-minute shorts about the TIFF will be screened before next
year's Gala Presentations. Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg
have already committed to the project.
A "special tribute" will focus on a major name director with stars
invited to pay their respects to that person at a black-tie dinner.
The TIFF used to host a similar event each year, with past tributes
held for Warren Beatty, Robert Duvall, and John Schlesinger.
"The Big Picture", the definitive history of the Toronto International
Film Festival, is currently being written by "Maclean's" film critic
Brian Johnson.
Free screenings will begin next August and will reportedly cover ALL
of the Festival's past People's Choice award winners -- including this
year's Air Canada People's Choice Winner "American Beauty".
MovieForum.com will be there, too.
I've got twelve months to stockpile black duds and perfect that
"long face"
