In an unnamed age long ago, Ashitaka, the young, headstrong, and LAST warrior of the Emishi clan, slays a giant, worm-ridden demon that attacks his northern village. Upon its death, the beast is revealed to be a possessed boar. During the fight, the demon scratched Ashitaka, and the village mystic tells him that he is infected with the curse of death from the creature and will perish painfully, unless he can find a remedy.

Venturing south to locate the all-powerful forest god Shishigami, Ashitaka happens upon a village that is stripping the hillsides for iron and has incurred the wrath of Moro, the Wolf Spirit, and a once-human girl who communicates with nature spirits and is known as Princess Mononoke. The village's Lady Eboshi, her army empowered with newly invented guns as well as blades, battles the many forest gods Shishigami unleashes to protect his forest domain.

Ashikta becomes involved with the Princess, and thus entwined in the battle between man and nature. Will he be wiped out along with the other humans? Will he find a way to reverse his curse? Bloody battles and magnificent, wildly imaginative creatures will keep you engrossed and dazzled for the film's lengthy 135 minute running time.
