Easter Parade
Review cont.
[ Previous]The
more I watch Easter Parade, the more I enjoy the dialogue. This
musical isn't merely great songs and dancing. It's got a witty script
as well. From ordering drinks large enough to drown brunettes in, to
Nadine selecting which outfits to go with her latest pet dog, there
are absolute gems of lines waiting to be enjoyed. (See our Easter
Parade quotes page for some of
the best.)
Even if you're not a musical fan it's worth watching for the wonderful
scene-stealing Jules Munshin. As François, the head waiter
at the restaurant where the four lead characters never stay long enough
to actually eat something, he makes describing a salad a mini comedy
all in it's own.

The one thing about this movie that does annoy me is Ann Miller's hair!
Though maybe it's caused by the fact the print could do with being cleaned
up. It's auburn at the front but nearly black at the back. If she was
meant to be wearing a hair-piece (and there seemed to be one on Nadine's
dressing table in a scene) couldn't it have been the same colour as
her hair? Maybe I'm just being picky, but it always distracts me. If
you've noticed the same, or seen the restored print that was used for
the laserdisc release in '92, I'd love to hear from you. Just post to
the Easter Parade discussion in the forum.
There's another thing about Ms. Miller's hair which always makes me
do a double take. At the end of Nadine's breathtaking "Shakin The Blues
Away" number, after that final spin, her hair is loose and all over
the place. The camera cuts to the audience applause and then back to
Nadine who has managed to completely tidy and re-style her hair in two
seconds flat! The magic of the movies, eh?
Quick Trivia
Some trivia for you. Which two actors were called in as replacements
when the originals cast in the roles had to back out due to injury,
and who were those originally cast? Answers at the bottom of the Quotes
Page and the Photo Gallery
page.
