Grosse Pointe Blank
Everybody's coming back to take stock of their lives. You know what
I say? Leave your livestock alone.

Debi Newberry (Minnie Driver), the girl Martin left behind 10
years ago. Will she let him back into her life? Maybe, but she'll ask
the audience of her radio show to give their opinion first ! What will
happen though when Martin reveals the truth about his 'missing' ten
years ...
Debi could have really been overshadowed by the rest of the characters
in the movie, but more than holds her own in my opinion. Minnie Driver
brought to life the oh-so-cool radio presenter and the big kid who still
wants aeroplanes! <G> I just love the way she asks her listeners
for their opinion on how she should deal with Martin, & that she's
got the confidence to 'dress down' for the reunion. I'd have been panicking
over what to wear for weeks if that had been me! :-)
Martin has another problem to contend with, Grocer (Dan Ackroyd).
A rival hit-man who wants Martin to join a 'union', with guess who as
the boss?
I think Grocer's character is summed up in his very first scene : when
he keeps firing his guns until they're empty then drops them down on
the body. This guy goes for overkill <VBG> That whole idea of
a Union for hired killers, I don't know how Dan Ackroyd could keep a
straight face while he was explaining it all (wonder how many takes
it took to get the exchange in the Cuppa Joe filmed <G>)!

Behind every great businessman is a great secretary, and Martin Blank
runs his particular business just like any other. Step forward Marcella
(Joan Cusack), as eccentrically 'down to earth' as her employer
!
Love her character's name, & love the character. The way Marcella
can go from calmly explaining how to make chicken soup, to screaming
commands down the phone to an idiot who's messed up an ammunition order,
is hilarious. Joan Cusack is a terrifically funny character actress,
& it's as if this part could have been written for her (which it
very probably was <VBG>)
