[Go back to Previous] On the train for New York Ann overhears the Sunshine Twins discussing the fact that Charles Gerard is on board the train. Will this be her chance to audition for him?

To say that Martin is surprised by Ann's appearance is an understatement. He's got a lot of explaining to do ...

After hearing the truth from Martin about his job, Ann is befriended by Severina the cook (Elsa Jannsen) and fills the vacancy for a maid in the household. After bungling her chance to audition for Mr Gerard on the train surely this will give her that longed for chance.

Charles Gerard might not have matched the voice he's heard to his new maid but she certainly proves a hit with his business colleagues. They'd rather wait on her in the kitchen than party!

Things continue to get more complicated. Ann goes along to audition for a friend of Charles' - Kalb (Walter Catlett). Charles turns up announcing he has writers block and is planning to give up writing. Ann passionately tries to tell him how much his music means to people, and to her, to encourage him to think again. However he's determined to leave town.

Despondent, Ann goes to a birthday party for one of the other butlers from the building. She throws herself into the spirit of things, performing a medley of Russian songs in honour of Popoff (Akim Tamiroff), though she is still heartbroken over the thought of Charles leaving.

However all is not lost, Charles turns up at the restaurant (as usual totally missing the chance to hear Ann sing). They dance, then talk and laugh together. Walking home they realise they are falling in love.

Is this the happy ending? Sadly not. Martin thinks Charles is just toying with his sister so, to get him to leave her alone, Martin tells his boss that Ann just wants to audition for him and will do anything for that chance. Heartbreak and tears follow, will Martin realise his mistake and reunite the pair ? What do you think! :-) [Photo GalleryContinue Reading]
