Thoughts on War Movies

There have been so many movies about war and they are still being produced.
It seems like it fascinates many directors and film producers. War has
been depicted as glorious and vice versa. I for one don't like the glorification
of war movies but still it amazes me that I end up watching some once
in a while. But I do like when a war movie has something more to say
than just the war part.
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence is a great movie, IMO. It gives
another perspective on war - that is the prisoner-of-war camp.
Empire of the Sun is wonderful because it gives another view
of the war from a childs perspective!
Platoon because it was one of the first (I think...) to show
the Vietnam War in a different light (at least that's my humble opinion).
Kelley's Heroes and MASH - I liked these movies because
I felt they managed to present a wonderful humor without losing the
seriousness of war.
Other war movies I have seen which I thought was worth watching: Lawrence
of Arabia, The Guns of Navarone... no more movies comes to
mind right now...
