The First Film That Scared Me...
Posted by: HORNHEAD13
The first film that scared me was "X, The Man With X-Ray Eyes."
I know, I know, that wasn't a scary movie with a terrifying looking
monster in it. That's why it scared me! I was raised in a church and
the final scene in the tent revival with that fire-and-brimstone preacher
preaching hard at "X" which resulted in X tearing his eyes
out shocked me. I didn't cry or call for my parents, but I did walk
down our dark hall to my bedroom with my back to the wall. I then got
into bed where I crawled under the covers, sweating profusely with fear.
I woke up a couple of hours or so later and realized that I was okay.
I wasn't under the covers anymore and was no longer afraid.
The second movie that scared me scared me and my sister enough to run
into our parents room and wake my dad up so that HE could go into the
front room and turn off the TV! It was called, "Equinox."
It was a low-budget movie about Satanic rituals and beliefs that was
made by some college students someplace. The scene that prompted my
sister and I to run to our parents room was the scene where the "good
guys" (young adults as I recall) ran to a forest ranger for help
and HE turned out to be either Satan himself or one of Satan's helpers.
THAT scene scared me because I was a young boy (and my sister was even
younger than I was) and always did a lot of camping with my parents
(we belonged to a camping club and camped once a month for several years).
We were always taught that we could trust a park ranger. After seeing
that evil park ranger in that movie that night, I was filled with fear
and ran to my dad's bedside. My sister, who was equally terrified was
probably even more scared than I was because she saw her big brother
who had NEVER been scared by a horror movie before (I was scared by
that "X, The Man With The X-Ray Eyes" movie but my sister
wasn't at home that night to see me scared by it!) running like a scared
cat to another room! LOL!
The third movie that scared me was "Night of the Living Dead."
I simply turned that movie off and watched something else when that
got to be too scary for me.
It has been more than 20 years since any movie has scared me enough
to turn it over or to be scared by it. I have watched both, THE NIGHT
OF THE LIVING DEAD and X, THE MAN WITH THE X RAY EYES since then with
NO problem whatsoever. As for EQUINOX, while I would love to see that
low-budget flick again(and this time I would watch the whole thing),
it simply is on television anymore. Not to my knowledge, anyways.
